Family Fun Day in Yanchep

This Sunday (10/07/2011) we are heading to the Yanchep Districts Football Gala Day held at Oldham Oval in Yanchep. sunshiners gifts fresh flowers two rocks fresh flowers two rocks yanchep yanchep personalised

Having taken our daughter to the event last year, we are definitely going to spend a few hours there again this year.  sunshiners gifts fresh flowers two rocks fresh flowers two rocks yanchep yanchep personalised

For just a minimal charge (I think last year was $5.00) kids purchase a wristband which then entitle them to go on most of the rides as many times as they want.  There are a couple of rides that you will have to pay a small fee for, such as the Pony Rides, but seeing our 3 year old daughter's face as she was led around on one of the adorable ponies was well worth the money we paid out 3 times for!sunshiners gifts fresh flowers edible photo edible photo gift shop two rocks edible photo
Pony Rides were a huge hit last year!
What also impressed me were the amount of rides that young ones could go on without an adult.  Hopefully these rides will be there again this year, as it was great to see amusements for all ages catered for.  edible

And when you get a bit hungry support the Club by buying a hotdog, hamburger or whatever else takes your fancy. sunshiners gifts two rocks fresh flowers gift shop two rocks edible photo edible photo edible photo

This is not a fundraising event, but a day the Football Club have organised for the Community to come along and enjoy.  two rocks gift shop fresh flowers fresh flowers edible photo edible photo edible photo gift shop

Yanchep National Park

The kangaroos are out in force again

Wednesday I took my young daughter to the Yanchep National Park.  We often go there for a couple of hours as it is only 10 minutes away and we love it.

The 28's certainly aren't shy.
The weather was perfect, which meant the kangaroos that had previously been hiding in summer, were now out in force feeding on the green grasses.  My daughter loves kangaroos and she managed to get right up close to a young one who didn't realise she was there.  Thankfully she knows not to yell or chase them so the joey just got up and moved a few hops away.  She was thrilled.

Koala sleeping after a big lunch
Then we had a look through the Koala Walk, where our first encounter was this very sleepy fellow taking a nap after a lunchtime feed.  We saw another 3 koalas, but these were very hard to spot as they get up so high in the trees.  Balancing precariously on branches, it's a wonder they don't accidentally fall out of their tree when asleep.
One of the many Swamp Hens that wander around the Park
And we can't forget the birdlife that calls the Park home.  From very game 28 Parrots to Swamp Hens, Ducks, Kookaburras, Black Cockatoos, Pelicans, Crows and more.  It was wonderful to see the rains had bought the Lake levels up and with the rain we've had since, it should be almost back to where it should be.

The Park has many grassy, shaded areas with seating and barbecue facilities, or you could try the Chocolate Drops Tea Rooms or Yanchep Inn for a delicious meal.

So, if you are looking for something to do one relaxing afternoon (or morning), then take a trip to the Yanchep National Park (followed by a stop in at Sunshiners Gifts & Souvenirs in Two Rocks!).
